When you check spelling automatically while you type, you can be more
confident that you won't have to correct a lot of spelling mistakes when you
are ready to deliver your document. Your Microsoft Office program can flag
misspelled words while you work so that you can easily spot them, as in the
following example.

You can right-click the misspelled word to see suggested corrections.

Depending on the Microsoft Office program you are using, right-clicking
a word can provide you with other options, such as adding the word to your
custom dictionary.

After you enable automatic grammar checking, Word and Outlook flag the
potential grammar and style mistakes while you work in Word documents and in
opened Outlook items (except Notes), as shown in the following example.

You can right-click the mistake for more options.

On the menu that is shown, you may be given a suggested correction. You
also can choose to ignore the error or click About This Sentence to see
why the program considers the text to be a mistake.

Using the Research feature, you can look up synonyms (different words
with the same meaning) and antonyms (words with the opposite meaning) in the thesaurus.

In an open message, click the message body, and then on the Message tab, in the Proofing group, click Spelling, and then click Thesaurus.

up. Results appear in the Research task in an open message,

translate From and To. For example, to translate English

(France) in the to list.

To customize which resources are used for translation, click Translation
options, and then select the look-up options that you want.

To translate a specific word, press ALT and click a word. The results
appear in the Research task pane under Translation.

this check box to bypass words that are typed in uppercase letters, or clear
this check box to flag all words typed in uppercase letters.

this check box to ensure that PowerPoint offers you suggestions only from the
original, built-in dictionary in PowerPoint, or clear this check box to allow
PowerPoint to offer suggestions from the original, built-in dictionary in
PowerPoint and from your custom dictionaries.

Custom Dictionaries Click
this button if you want to create, add, remove, edit, or change the language of a
custom dictionary.

French modes In
1990, the French Spelling Reform of 1990 changed the spelling of about 2000
French words and some French grammar rules. Although the reform is not
universally accepted, you can specify the version that you want to use to check
French grammar and spelling — the traditional grammar and spelling, the
new grammar and spelling, or both. In the French modes list, select one
of the following:

both new and traditional grammar and spelling.

Traditional spelling Checks
traditional grammar and spelling only.

New spelling Checks
new grammar and spelling only.
When correcting spelling in PowerPoint

Check spelling as you type Select
this check box to check the spelling of words as you type them, or clear this
check box if you do not want to check spelling as you type.

Use contextual spelling Select
this check box to find and fix contextual spelling mistakes, or clear this
check box to ignore contextual spelling. The following examples of contextual
spelling mistakes can be corrected by selecting this check box:
