61- Checking spelling Play Video

1-  When you check spelling automatically while you type, you can be more confident that you won't have to correct a lot of spelling mistakes when you are ready to deliver your document. Your Microsoft Office program can flag misspelled words while you work so that you can easily spot them, as in the following example.

3-  You can right-click the misspelled word to see suggested corrections.

4-  Depending on the Microsoft Office program you are using, right-clicking a word can provide you with other options, such as adding the word to your custom dictionary.

5-  After you enable automatic grammar checking, Word and Outlook flag the potential grammar and style mistakes while you work in Word documents and in opened Outlook items (except Notes), as shown in the following example.

8-  On the menu that is shown, you may be given a suggested correction. You also can choose to ignore the error or click About This Sentence to see why the program considers the text to be a mistake.

Ø Using the Research feature, you can look up synonyms (different words with the same meaning) and antonyms (words with the opposite meaning) in the thesaurus.

Ø In an open message, click the message body, and then on the Message tab, in the Proofing group, click Spelling, and then click Thesaurus.

Ø  you can look up a word quickly if you right-click anywhere in the document, presentation, open message, or previewed message in the Reading Pane, and then click Synonym on the shortcut menu.

2-  On the Tools menu, click Research, and then in the All Reference Books list, click Thesaurus.

1-  Press ALT and click the word that you want to look up. Results appear in the Research task in an open message, click the message body, and then on the Message tab, in the Proofing group, click Spelling, and then click Translate.

2-  In the Reading Pane, right-click the message body, and then click Translate on the shortcut menu.

3-  On the Review tab, click Translate.

4-  On the Tools menu, click Research, and then in the All Reference Books list, click Translation.

5-  If this is the first time you have used translation services, click OK to install the bilingual dictionaries and enable the translation service through the Research task pane.

6-  To change the languages that are used for translation, in the Research task pane, under Translation, select the languages that you want to translate From and To. For example, to translate English to French, click English (U.S.) in the from list and French (France) in the to list.

7-  To customize which resources are used for translation, click Translation options, and then select the look-up options that you want.

8-  To translate a specific word, press ALT and click a word. The results appear in the Research task pane under Translation.

9-  Using ALT+Click is not supported in Microsoft Office PowerPoint. Instead, type the word or phrase in the Search for box, and then click Start Searching Button image .

10-  To translate a short phrase, select the words press ALT and click the selection. The results appear in the Research task pane under Translation.

12-  To translate a whole document, in the Research task pane, under Translation, click Translate the whole document Button image . A translation of your document appears in your Web browser. Translate the whole document is available only in Microsoft Office Word.

13-  Privacy Alert   If you choose to translate your whole document, your document is sent unencrypted to a third-party translation service. As with any information that is sent unencrypted over the Internet, it might be possible for other people to see the document.

14-  To translate a word or phrase, type the word or phrase in the Search for box, and then click Start Searching Button image .

When correcting spelling in Office programs

1-  Ignore words in UPPERCASE Select this check box to bypass words that are typed in uppercase letters, or clear this check box to flag all words typed in uppercase letters.

2-  Ignore words that contain numbers Select this check box to bypass words that contain numbers, or clear this check box to flag all words that contain numbers.

3-  Ignore Internet and file addresses Select this check box to bypass all Internet and file addresses, or clear this check box to flag all Internet and file addresses.

4-  Flag repeated words Select this check box to flag words that appear more than once in a sentence, or clear this check box to bypass all words that appear more than once in a sentence.

5-  Enforce accented uppercase in French  If you are working with French text, select this check box to flag non-accented uppercase characters as spelling errors, or clear this check box to bypass non-accented uppercase characters.

6-  Suggest from main dictionary only  Select this check box to ensure that PowerPoint offers you suggestions only from the original, built-in dictionary in PowerPoint, or clear this check box to allow PowerPoint to offer suggestions from the original, built-in dictionary in PowerPoint and from your custom dictionaries.

7-  Custom Dictionaries Click this button if you want to create, add, remove, edit, or change the language of a custom dictionary.

8-  French modes In 1990, the French Spelling Reform of 1990 changed the spelling of about 2000 French words and some French grammar rules. Although the reform is not universally accepted, you can specify the version that you want to use to check French grammar and spelling — the traditional grammar and spelling, the new grammar and spelling, or both. In the French modes list, select one of the following:

9-  Traditional and new spellings Checks both new and traditional grammar and spelling.

10-  Traditional spelling Checks traditional grammar and spelling only.

11-  New spelling Checks new grammar and spelling only.

When correcting spelling in PowerPoint

12-  Check spelling as you type Select this check box to check the spelling of words as you type them, or clear this check box if you do not want to check spelling as you type.

13-  Use contextual spelling Select this check box to find and fix contextual spelling mistakes, or clear this check box to ignore contextual spelling. The following examples of contextual spelling mistakes can be corrected by selecting this check box:

15-  There are to people in the group.("To" should be "two
