When dealing with unknown .exe, .dll or other binary files, it's often helpful to view any text information contained in the file. This may help you to identify the program itself, as well as other information, such as the copyright date, application used to create the file, menu items and error messages.

Peek is a tiny utility that allows you to do this by creating a right-click context menu item. Usage can't be simpler: Just right-click a binary file and select "Peek." The program can handle Unicode strings and can provide text string offsets. A little gem.
